Introducing
Safe and Sound

Connect with yourself, others, and the outside world through a proven program with amazing results.

How does it work?

The Safe and Sound Program interrupts chronic states of nervous system defence by stimulating the neural networks associated with listening.

Then, it uses algorithmically filtered music focused on the frequency range of the human voice that alters the way sounds are interpreted.

This ushers the nervous system out of a defensive (fight, flight or freeze) state and into a socially engaged (ventral vagal) state.

Who is it for?

The Safe and Sound Program is suitable for children and adults, and has been designed to work with a diverse variety of therapeutic approaches and modalities. Its effectiveness has been proven in a wide range of studies including clinical trials involving children with autism, along with numerous case studies demonstrating effectiveness with emotional regulation, trauma, anxiety and more.

Research has even begun on how the SSP can affect the impact of long COVID.

Focus System

Improve Function, Skill Building and Nervous System Regulation with the Focus System

The Focus System is based on the fact that we can change our brain – we can re-wire it through specific and repeated stimulation, a concept known as neuroplasticity. As in building strength and endurance with physical exercise, we are able to build neurological pathways and synaptic activity at any age.

How does it work?

Focus System programs provide simultaneous multi-sensory input to help develop new, and reinforce existing, neural pathways governing organization of the body and brain function.

Specially-treated music is delivered via air and bone conduction headphones, providing auditory input to the brain and sensory input to the body. Movement activities using the integration kit, customizable for all levels, provide additional sensory and motor input for body organization.

The treatment and platform are easy to implement now that it is digital. The user downloads an app and the music gets downloaded right to your device such as phone or iPad.

Who is this for?

The Focus System can be a great resource for people of any age. It develops a foundation that may never have been fully developed or was interrupted due to a life event.

With appropriate stimulation, the brain’s ability to successfully process and retain information leads to improvement in concentration and memory, better academic outcomes, an increased ability to control impulses and self-regulate behavior, appropriate social engagement with others, less stress and anxiety, and a happier disposition.

About Inner
Connections

Michelle Mintz is trained as an occupational therapist. She has been using the focus program in her practice since 2012 and SSP since it became available in 2017. She has seen amazing results with clients who do the program consistently and follow the protocol.

Life experiences impact how we feel, think and connect with ourselves, others and the world around us. The music interventions support the nervous system regulation and brain function, enabling you to respond better to life.

Improving brain body connections will make every other therapy you are doing more successful because it provides a foundation to areas of the brain or development that were not fully developed or interrupted due to an event.

What People Say About Their Results

I have done the SSP core program many times over the years. I love it! It helps me to relax and deal with the stress in my life better. I immediately feel my facial muscles soften. I also use the balance music as part of my self-care a few times a week.

iLs is such an easy program to implement with big results. My son has done the program and he is no longer falling out of bed or tripping and falling. He is more aware of his environment and what is going on around him. I highly recommend trying iLs.

My son did the SSP and we are blown away by the results. He is eating so much and having more regular bowel movements. We are seeing his confidence soar, and he has made huge leaps in literacy with his tutor. We are so excited, we want to do it again.

My daughter completed the iLs Sensory Motor program last summer. The first thing we saw was an improvement in sleep both falling asleep and staying asleep. This year was a wonderful year for her in school, she was more attentive and she made big academic progress.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the Safe and Sound Program? Safe and Sound protocol core music is 5 hours of music. This is carried out over several weeks or longer if necessary.

How long is the Focus Program? The focus program is made up of calming prep music and four programs including: Sensory & Motor, Concentration & Attention, Reading & Auditory Processing and Optimal Performance. The program is a bigger commitment and requires a minimum of 3-5 hours per week of listening over several months or longer depending on the program.

What headphones do I use for the Safe and Sound Program? Over-the-ear headphones are required for SSP Core as they provide an immersive auditory experience for the listener. The vagus nerve has a sensory branch to the external ear, over-the-ear headphones maximize input to the vagus nerve by covering the whole ear, which maximizes potential to improve parasympathetic function. On-the-ear headphones, earbuds, Noise-canceling headphones, and bass-boosting headphones are not recommended unless features such as noise-cancellation or bass-boosting can be turned off. In addition, noise-canceling headphones are not recommended as they emit a low-frequency sound that disrupts the midfrequency sounds of background noise. Bluetooth headphones are approved as long as the distance between the headphones and the device is kept to a minimum, so as to not lose connection and disrupt the music.

What headphones are used for the Focus Program? For the focus program, the headphones have bone conduction. A bone conductor is a transducer that converts one form of energy to another. With the Focus System, the properties of sound energy are converted to vibration. The bone conductor is placed at the top of the headphones and is powered by the Focus amplifier. Bone conduction is an important tool to increase activation to the vestibular system. This enhanced activation results in improved body awareness, balance, coordination and increased muscle tone. Bone is a good conductor of sound. The sound of operatic singers’ voices, for example, are carried through their entire body by the bones of their skeletal structures.

What are the costs of each program? The SSP costs $375 for music and coaching. The Focus program costs $275 per month for music and coaching with a one-time set up fee of $299 for equipment.
