OT Services

You have the ability to change, learn and grow

Scientific research is confirming what clinicians have known for years: your brain has the ability to change and evolve, forming new neural connections throughout your life. These vital connections are activated by sensory input from new activities, situations, environments and even your thoughts and beliefs.  At Inner Connections, I provide my services based on the premise that we are all able to change, learn, grow and heal throughout our whole lives.

The variety of therapy options available at Inner Connections, allows us together to choose the right one for you and your child based on the existing challenges and desired goals.  To improve the brain-body connections, I use a specific model of therapy.

BODYWORK-MOVEMENT-BRAIN INTEGRATION

Each therapy in and of itself is an incredible tool, designed to enhance the life of you or your child.  As individual as they are, not all therapies work for everyone. That is why we take the time to evaluate which therapy or combination of therapies will work best for you or your child.

Body Based Therapies
CranioSacral Therapy
(CST)

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) utilizes gentle touch to release tension in the craniosacral system--the fluid and membranes surrounding the central nervous system. CST enhances the performance of the central nervous system, activating the body’s healing process and allowing you to recover from the stresses and strains of daily life and past trauma.

CST is so gentle it is suitable for infants, children and adults.  CST also improves the functioning of your immune system, who doesn't need an overall boost of wellness.  When appropriate, a combination CST and other massage techniques are used together for amplified healing benefit..

Tension/Trauma Release Exercise (TRE)

TRE (Tension & Trauma Release Exercise) is an innovative series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma.

Created by Dr. David Berceli, PhD, TRE safely activates a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system. When this muscular shaking/vibrating mechanism is activated in a safe and controlled environment, the body is encouraged to return back to a state of balance.

Rhythmic Movement
Training (RMT)

Rhythmic movement training (RMT) is based on the natural spontaneous movements made by infants in their first year of life. These gentle, rhythmic movements stimulate the brain, enabling it to properly develop and mature. If, for any reason, there are not enough opportunities to engage in these rhythmic movements during infancy, problems with sensory information processing and emotional and learning skills can develop.

RMT is a great way to increase cerebral spinal fluid flow, release stress and tension from the body, as well as, develop emotional balance, learning ability, ease of movement and sensory integration.

Reflex Integration Therapy (RIT)

Reflex integration therapy aims to develop and mature the body’s reflexes for optimal functioning. Reflexes are automatic movements that humans make in the womb and beyond; they are vital for the proper development of the brain and central nervous system. If the reflex movements do not develop properly, problems with learning, emotions, and behavior may occur.

Reflex integration therapy uses light touch to enhance natural movement patterns and integrate the reflexes, resulting in improved learning, emotional, and behavioral skills.

Emotional Freedom
Technique (EFT)

Emotional Freedom Techniques, is a healing tool that can provide impressive results for physical, emotional, and performance issues. EFT operates on the premise that no matter what part of your life needs improvement, there are unresolved emotional issues in the way.

One cannot have a physical pain without an emotion about it and one cannot have an emotion without feeling some physical sensation in the body.

With that in mind, EFT can be an ongoing process that we use to clear out the old traumas, and welcome any new challenges with a healthy, productive attitude.

Infant Massage
Instruction

Infant massage is a way for you to gently nurture and spend time with your baby.  Research suggests that infant massage can have various health benefits indluding:

  • Encourages interaction between you and baby

  • Helps baby to relax and sleep

  • Positively affects infant hormones that control stress

  • Reduces crying

  •

Brain Based Therapies
Sensory Integration                 Therapy

Sensory Integration Therapy is used to treat sensory processing disorder.  Sensory processing (used to be called "sensory integration" or SI) is a term that refers to the way the nervous system receives messages from the senses and turns them into appropriate motor and behavioral responses.  The brain of a child with SPD is simply wired differently.

During OT sessions, the therapist guides the child through fun activities that are subtly structured so the child is constantly challenged and always successful.  The goal is to foster appropriate responses to sensation in an active, meaningful, and fun way so the child is able to behave in a more functional manner.

Integrated Listening Systems (iLs)

Integrated listening systems (iLs) combine auditory stimulation with balance, movement, and visual motor activities. By simultaneously engaging these senses, iLs enables the brain to become better at processing multi-sensory information.

Existing neural pathways are strengthened, and new ones are formed, resulting in improved sensory processing, learning, attention and concentration, auditory processing, language, and improved self confidence.

Bal-A-Vis- X
Therapeutic Listening

Therapeutic listening is a music-based therapy used most often in children who have trouble with sensory processing, listening, attention, and communication. The music in therapeutic listening programs is electronically modified to enhance those sounds that capture the child’s attention and stimulate the parts of the brain involved in organized behavior, social skills, and movement and coordination.

Interactive Metronome

Rhythm and timing in the brain are essential & underlay all that we do. There exists a growing body of literature describing the neural timing deficits in ADHD, Dyslexia, Autism, Reading Disorders, Auditory Processing Disorder, Parkinson’s, and other conditions.

By addressing timing in the brain with Interactive Metronome (IM), alongside functional therapy interventions, you are not only addressing areas of ability that impact achievement and independence, you are also addressing the heart of the problem, that of deficient neural timing within and between regions of the brain that are underlying many of the problems you are working on in therapy.

This leads to more efficient and better overall treatment outcomes.

Bal-A-Vis-X is a series of balance, auditory, vision exercises for brain and body integration.

There are over 300 different exercises most of which are done with sand filled bean bags and/or racquetballs, often while standing on a balance board.

No matter what type of treatment used, the ultimate goal is a calm, balanced nervous system so you and your child can become healthier and happier, living fuller lives.
